At one time there were about 50 U. S. Appliance manufacturers, today there are four. As homes became wired for electricity, the electric motor operated appliances came into prominence. These were sold door-to-door, but with a difference. The client had to be convinced they would not be electrocuted while operating the machine. By 1921, the C. E. Sundberg Company had grown to a chain of 13 retail stores in the Chicago land area.
